Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that India has made remarkable progress by transforming itself from one of the world’s largest importers of defence equipment into a growing manufacturer and exporter of advanced defence platforms. Addressing trainee officers of the Indian Foreign Service in New Delhi, he highlighted the country’s steady journey towards self-reliance in the defence sector.
Singh noted that India’s defence manufacturing capabilities have expanded across land, air and naval domains, reflecting the success of initiatives aimed at strengthening indigenous production. He added that the international community is closely observing India’s economic and technological growth, with many nations recognising the country’s emerging leadership on the global stage.
The Defence Minister emphasised that a strong domestic defence industry not only enhances national security but also contributes to economic growth, technological innovation and employment generation. Increased investment in research, development and advanced manufacturing has enabled India to reduce its dependence on imported military equipment while expanding exports to friendly nations.
India’s focus on self-reliance under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” vision continues to strengthen its strategic capabilities and global competitiveness. The country’s growing defence ecosystem, supported by public and private sector participation, is expected to play a key role in positioning India as a leading defence manufacturing and export hub in the coming years.
