Public road transport services along the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route via National Highway 2 are witnessing a smooth resumption, providing renewed connectivity between Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
On Saturday, 428 passengers departed from Imphal in 19 vehicles, including eight buses and 11 small vehicles. The vehicles left the Imphal bus terminal at around 10 am, marking the highest single-day passenger movement since services resumed on August 21.
More than 1,700 people have travelled from Imphal towards Dimapur and Guwahati over the past week. Although transport movement was temporarily suspended on Friday due to a shutdown in Senapati district, services have since resumed.
The restoration of the route follows the state government’s announcement to reopen national highways for free movement and restart the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service. The move has been welcomed by commuters and authorities as an important step toward improving safe and hassle-free inter-state travel.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the restored service would particularly benefit students travelling outside the state and people seeking medical treatment.
