Midwest Energy has inaugurated a battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 1.2 GWh in Bengaluru. Developed with an investment of approximately Rs 100 crore, the plant marks a significant step in strengthening India’s domestic energy storage manufacturing capabilities.
At full capacity utilisation, the facility is expected to generate annual revenues of nearly Rs 1,000 crore while creating 150–250 employment opportunities as production scales up. The plant manufactures battery energy storage systems ranging from 3 kWh to 6 MWh, supporting voltage platforms from 48V to 1,500V. These systems cater to a wide range of applications, including commercial and industrial projects, renewable energy installations, utility-scale storage, data centres, hospitals, and electric mobility.
The facility features integrated cell-to-container manufacturing capabilities and produces battery storage systems that comply with internationally recognised safety standards such as UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 9540A.
Looking ahead, Midwest Energy plans to automate the facility to increase production capacity to 2 GWh, followed by phased expansions to 3 GWh and 6 GWh over the next three years. The expansion strategy aligns with India’s growing demand for advanced energy storage solutions to support renewable energy integration and strengthen grid reliability.
