Global electric vehicle major Tesla has officially activated its first charging station in India, following its entry into the country in July with the debut of the Model Y and the opening of an Experience Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra‑Kurla Complex.
The facility, located at One BKC, comprises four V4 Supercharging stalls (DC fast chargers delivering up to 250 kW) alongside four destination AC chargers rated at 11 kW. Charging is priced at approximately ₹24 per kWh for DC and ₹14 per kWh for AC sessions. Tesla estimates a full Supercharger session costs between ₹1,200 and ₹1,400, delivering up to 267 km of driving range in just 15 minutes.
Importantly, Tesla aims to roll out three more charging stations across Mumbai, at Lower Parel, Thane and Navi Mumbai, by the end of the September quarter, signaling a strong commitment toward building EV infrastructure in India.
The Model Y is being imported as a completely built unit (CBU) from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. The base rear-wheel-drive version is priced at ₹59.89 lakh, while the long-range variant starts at ₹67.89 lakh. Deliveries are anticipated to begin in Q3 and Q4 of 2025, respectively. Tesla’s infrastructural push in the financial capital underlines its strategy to nurture a premium EV market in India while addressing range anxiety through reliable charging access.
