Construction Project Contract Secured for Aruna Pumped Storage Project DPR

Date:

DMR Hydroengineering & Infrastructures, in partnership with Germany’s engineering consultancy Fichtner, has secured an Rs 8.82 crore contract from THDC India to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Aruna Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Maharashtra. Awarded following a competitive bidding process that emphasised technical capability and cost efficiency, the consultancy engagement must be completed within 13.5 months of contract signing.

As lead partner, DMR will oversee geotechnical and topographical surveys, civil and structural design, environmental and social impact assessments, stakeholder consultations, land acquisition planning, and compliance with national water resource regulations. Fichtner will contribute advanced hydrological modelling, electro‑mechanical system layouts, financial feasibility studies, and grid integration analysis. Together, they will deliver a comprehensive construction blueprint covering dam and reservoir design, powerhouse configuration, penstock routing, transmission corridors, and detailed risk mitigation measures.

Pumped storage facilities like Aruna PSP operate by pumping water to an upper reservoir during low-demand periods and releasing it to generate electricity at peak times. With a planned capacity of 1,950 MW, the project is poised to enhance grid stability, manage peak load fluctuations, and facilitate the integration of variable solar and wind power into Maharashtra’s energy mix.

The contract award underscores India’s strategic push toward sustainable infrastructure and large‑scale energy storage solutions. By combining DMR’s domestic engineering leadership with Fichtner’s international best practices, the Aruna PSP construction project is set to strengthen regional power security and accelerate the state’s renewable energy ambitions.
