As the rains get stronger, Mumbai seems more ready this year. The BMC has finished cleaning 95% of the city’s stormwater drains, a big part of its yearly plan to stop flooding and waterlogging.
In the past week, heavy rains have slowed down traffic and local trains. However, civic teams are alert. Over 300 pumping stations are ready and dewatering pumps have already been placed in spots that often flood, such as Sion, Kurla and Andheri Subway.
Citizens are also being asked to help by reporting waterlogging and tree falls using the BMC helpline or app. This team effort will make a difference.
Officials say there is better teamwork between departments this time. The IMD is also giving quick weather alerts.
The city’s plan looks strong. Now, we hope the systems will work well when the rains get heavier. It’s a good step forward for Mumbai’s monsoon journey.
