The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has increased luggage charges by 15% for passengers carrying baggage beyond the free limit. The revised rates came into effect from February 16, 2026.
As per the updated rule, passengers can carry up to 30 kg of luggage free of cost, while children are allowed 15 kg free. Any baggage exceeding this limit will attract additional charges based on distance travelled. The corporation has maintained the existing baggage policy but revised the tariff structure to match current operational needs.
Officials stated that the decision was taken due to rising expenses such as higher diesel prices, staff salaries and maintenance costs. While ticket fares were revised earlier, luggage fees had remained unchanged since December 2021. The latest hike aims to balance revenue without further increasing passenger fares.
Under the new structure, luggage charges start at ₹6 for the first five stages (approximately 6 km per stage) and increase progressively depending on the distance, reaching up to ₹145 for longer routes.
KSRTC has directed all depots to update their ticketing systems and inform passengers about the revised charges. Travellers carrying extra baggage are advised to check the updated rates before boarding to avoid inconvenience.
