Delhi Plans Armed Security at Signature Bridge to Protect Key Infrastructure

Date:

Authorities are set to deploy armed security personnel at Signature Bridge in Delhi following a rise in cases of theft, vandalism, and damage to critical infrastructure at the landmark site. The move aims to safeguard public assets and ensure the safety and longevity of one of the city’s most prominent bridges.

Officials said incidents involving theft of electrical fittings, damage to lighting systems, and unauthorised access have increased in recent months, prompting concerns over public safety and maintenance costs. The Signature Bridge, a key connector over the Yamuna, also serves as a major visual landmark, making its protection a priority for civic agencies.

Under the new plan, armed guards will be stationed at vulnerable points around the bridge, particularly during night hours. Surveillance measures, including enhanced CCTV monitoring and stricter access control, are also expected to be strengthened to deter miscreants.

Urban infrastructure experts note that iconic public structures often become targets for vandalism due to inadequate round-the-clock security. Proactive protection, they say, is essential to prevent repeated damage and avoid disruptions to traffic and public utilities.

The deployment of armed guards reflects a broader effort by Delhi authorities to protect high-value infrastructure and ensure that public investments remain secure, functional, and safe for daily commuters.
