India’s infrastructure development is playing an important role in achieving the vision of becoming a $5 trillion economy and the third-largest economy in the world. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari highlighted the importance of strong infrastructure while addressing the CII National Conference on Highways of India’s Future in New Delhi.
He stated that the speed of national highway construction has increased four times, from 9 km per day before 2014 to 37 km per day. He also highlighted that India’s logistics cost has reduced from 16% to 9% of GDP, making transportation and trade more efficient.
According to Gadkari, better infrastructure supports industrial growth, attracts capital investment and creates employment opportunities across different sectors. Improved road connectivity has also boosted tourism, with several major routes witnessing significant reductions in travel time.
The development of highways, expressways, tunnels and bridges is helping connect cities, improve trade and support business activities. Gadkari also highlighted the growth of India’s highway network and the development of 36 expressways across the country.
Strong infrastructure is not just about building roads; it is about creating opportunities, supporting industries and strengthening the economy. Continued investment in modern infrastructure will be essential for India’s long-term economic growth.
