IndiGrid and EnerGrid have commissioned a 250 MW / 500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Rajasthan. The project has been developed through Rajasthan BESS (RBPL).
The facility is located in Bhadla, one of India’s major renewable energy hubs. It is designed to help meet peak electricity demand, improve grid flexibility and enable greater integration of renewable energy into the power network. By storing surplus power and releasing it when demand rises, the system can help balance the variable output of solar and wind plants.
NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) issued the tender in June 2024 for one GWh of standalone battery storage capacity, backed by viability gap funding. In October 2024, IndiGrid won 500 MWh, or half of the total tendered capacity, at a quoted tariff of about Rs 2.37 lakh per MW per month.
AmpereHour Energy acted as the technology partner, supporting the execution of the project alongside the other participating organisations.
The commissioning builds on IndiGrid’s earlier battery storage projects in Delhi and Gujarat. It further strengthens the company’s presence in the growing energy storage segment, which is becoming increasingly important as India expands its renewable energy capacity.
