Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has commissioned a 150-kilowatt rooftop solar power project at its Guwahati facility, marking another step in the company’s ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy infrastructure across its operations. The project is designed to improve energy security, reduce operational costs and support sustainable development goals.
The solar installation is expected to generate approximately 205,200 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, helping meet a significant portion of the facility’s energy requirements. By reducing dependence on conventional grid power and diesel generators, the project will ensure a more reliable and uninterrupted power supply for day-to-day operations.
The rooftop solar system supports essential infrastructure at the fuel station, including fuel dispensers, lighting, CCTV surveillance, point-of-sale systems, air compressors, signage and electric vehicle charging stations. The initiative is projected to deliver annual savings of around Rs 13.8 lakh, with the investment expected to recover its costs within four to five years.
Located in a key logistics and fuel distribution hub for Northeast India, the Guwahati facility plays an important role in maintaining regional supply networks. The new solar project is expected to strengthen operational resilience, particularly during grid outages, while lowering the facility’s carbon footprint.
The development reflects the growing adoption of renewable energy projects across India’s fuel retail sector and supports the country’s broader objective of increasing clean energy usage. Through such initiatives, IOCL continues to promote energy-efficient infrastructure and sustainable growth across its nationwide operations.
