India’s Waterproofing Industry Nears Rs 150 Billion Milestone

Date:

India’s waterproofing industry is approaching a significant milestone, with the market nearing Rs 150 billion and expected to cross the $2 billion mark. The development highlights the growing importance of waterproofing in building durable and climate-resilient infrastructure.

The outlook was discussed at the 2nd India International Waterproofers Conference & Expo 2026 in New Delhi, organised by the Waterproofers Association of India (WAI). The event brought together industry experts, international delegates and exhibitors to discuss emerging technologies, construction practices and opportunities for global collaboration.

A key focus was the need to move beyond short-term cost considerations and prioritise long-term structural performance. Industry experts stressed that infrastructure should be designed for extended lifespans, making quality waterproofing an essential component rather than an afterthought.

Changing weather patterns are further increasing the demand for advanced waterproofing solutions. Rising temperatures and intense rainfall are creating new challenges for buildings and infrastructure, driving interest in technologies such as spray polyurethane foam, advanced insulation systems and green roofs.

The sector is also focusing on skilled application and standardisation. WAI highlighted technical certification, applicator training and standardised specifications as important measures to reduce waterproofing failures.

With increasing construction activity, climate-related risks and technological advancements, waterproofing is positioned to play a more strategic role in India’s infrastructure development.
