QR Codes to Reveal Every Highway Project Detail

Date:

In a welcome move for transparency in India’s infrastructure, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new QR code system on national highways. Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, this initiative allows anyone to simply scan a code displayed at project sites to access details such as the contractor’s name, total project cost, duration and key officials involved.

For many years, information about public road projects remained out of reach for common citizens. With this step, the government has made it clear that infrastructure development is not just about building roads, it’s about building trust. Now, travelers and residents can easily check who is responsible for each project and how public funds are being spent.

This move also supports accountability and safety. India’s highways carry massive traffic every day and issues like delays or poor maintenance often affect citizens directly. By making project data accessible, people become active participants in ensuring better quality and quicker responses when problems arise.

The QR code initiative also represents a smart use of technology to connect governance with the public. It gives every citizen the power to verify and question, ensuring that poor workmanship or corruption no longer goes unnoticed.

In the long run, this system can inspire greater transparency across other government sectors as well. It reminds us that public infrastructure belongs to the people and when citizens are informed, progress becomes both visible and accountable.
