Kerala Seeks Smooth Supply of Construction Materials from Tamil Nadu

Date:

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has urged his Tamil Nadu counterpart to ease restrictions affecting the transport of construction materials between the two neighbouring states. The appeal comes amid concerns that delays in the movement of essential materials such as M-sand, manufactured aggregates and other building supplies are disrupting infrastructure projects and increasing construction costs across Kerala.

According to the Kerala government, stricter checks and transportation hurdles at border points have slowed the supply chain, impacting both public infrastructure works and private real estate developments. Contractors and builders have reported project delays, while the shortage of materials has also contributed to rising prices in the construction sector.

In his communication, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for stronger inter-state cooperation to ensure the uninterrupted movement of construction materials. He highlighted that a smoother transportation process would benefit businesses, workers and ongoing development projects in both states while supporting regional economic growth.

Industry stakeholders believe that resolving the issue through dialogue will help stabilize material availability, reduce project delays and improve overall efficiency in the construction ecosystem. The appeal also underscores the importance of coordinated policies between neighbouring states, particularly when supply chains play a critical role in supporting housing, infrastructure and commercial development.

The outcome of discussions between Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be closely watched by developers and construction firms, as any easing of transport restrictions could provide significant relief to the sector and help accelerate pending projects across the region.
