NTPC has announced the commercial operation of Unit-2 of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) Phase-1 in Jharkhand, further strengthening India’s power generation infrastructure. The newly commissioned unit, with an installed capacity of 800 MW, is part of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a subsidiary of NTPC, and began commercial operations on June 25, 2026.
The addition of Unit-2 marks another milestone in NTPC’s ongoing capacity expansion efforts. Following the commissioning, the NTPC Group’s total installed power generation capacity has increased to 90,857 MW, while its commercial capacity has reached 89,777 MW. The development reinforces NTPC’s leadership as India’s largest power producer and highlights its commitment to meeting the country’s rising electricity demand.
The Patratu STPP Phase-1 project is being developed with a total planned capacity of 2,400 MW, comprising three units of 800 MW each. Once fully operational, the project is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring reliable power supply to the region and supporting industrial growth.
The commissioning of the new unit is also expected to improve grid stability and strengthen energy availability. NTPC continues to expand its presence across thermal, hydro, renewable, and clean energy sectors as part of its long-term strategy to enhance India’s energy security and drive sustainable economic development.
