In a major push for urban infrastructure and environmental rejuvenation, the Maharashtra government has approved the transfer of three land parcels spanning 52,851 sq. mtrs. to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development Project. The approval was granted during a recent state cabinet meeting, marking a significant milestone for Pune’s ambitious river restoration initiative.
The transferred land includes an 11,015 sq. mtrs. stretch between Sangamwadi Bridge and Bund Garden Bridge, a 34,128 sq. mtrs. parcel located at Mundhwa Botanical Garden, and a 7,700 sq. mtrs. plot in Mundhwa previously under the Women and Child Welfare Department.
Officials believe the land handover will help fast-track project execution, enabling improved river conservation, beautification, and the creation of enhanced public infrastructure along the riverbanks. The initiative aims to transform the Mula-Mutha river corridor into a cleaner, more accessible, and visually appealing urban space for residents.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure welcomed the decision, highlighting its importance for Pune’s development, while Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale expressed confidence that the project would now move ahead at a faster pace. Additionally, the Standing Committee has approved plans to extend the riverfront development from Mundhwa to Manjari, alongside key proposals for waste management and heritage water supply preservation.
