The Kerala government has approved a 60-year lease of 5.03 acres belonging to Travancore Titanium Products (TTPL) to the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), paving the way for warehouse operations to begin in Thiruvananthapuram.
The move is intended to strengthen the logistics network developing around the Vizhinjam International Seaport. CWC will first set up warehousing and cargo-handling facilities on the leased plot. This interim arrangement lets operations start without waiting for the larger site. Later, CWC plans to build a bigger logistics hub on 20 acres at Amaravila, where the state is fast-tracking land acquisition.
The project is part of the seaport’s Rs 2,000 crore logistics master plan. Under this plan, CWC has committed around Rs 700 crore to develop a multimodal logistics park with warehouses, cold-storage units and export-oriented infrastructure.
Other central public sector enterprises are also involved. Container Corporation of India (Concor) will build container depots and cargo-handling facilities, while Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will set up bunkering infrastructure to refuel vessels calling at Vizhinjam.
Together, these coordinated investments by central agencies are expected to turn Vizhinjam into a comprehensive port-led logistics hub, improving cargo movement, supporting exporters and generating economic activity across southern Kerala.
