The Government of India has operationalised an all-India road transport network under the Department of Posts to strengthen parcel and e-commerce logistics across the country. Announcing the development in the Lok Sabha, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the initiative is part of the Mail Parcel Optimisation Project (MPOP), which aims to modernise and streamline parcel operations.
The newly established road network has been designed to improve connectivity between major parcel hubs, delivery centres and post offices, enabling faster and more efficient transportation of goods. The initiative comes at a time when India’s e-commerce sector is witnessing rapid growth, creating increased demand for reliable and timely logistics services.
As part of its modernisation efforts, India Post has also deployed advanced technology platforms that provide real-time tracking, improved operational visibility and enhanced customer experience. The department has upgraded infrastructure across multiple facilities, significantly increasing its parcel processing and handling capacity.
The results of these reforms are already visible. Parcel volumes handled by India Post have grown substantially over the last few years, reflecting the increasing trust of businesses and consumers in the postal network. The department has also introduced guaranteed delivery services across select routes to ensure quicker movement of shipments.
Additionally, initiatives such as Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras and international parcel services are helping small businesses, MSMEs, farmers and exporters access domestic and global markets more effectively.
With these developments, India Post is evolving from a traditional postal service into a modern logistics and e-commerce enabler, supporting India’s growing digital economy and strengthening last-mile connectivity nationwide.
