Nitin Gadkari recently reviewed National Highway projects in Karnataka and Kerala, stressing the need for high-quality construction, faster execution and strong monsoon preparedness. The review covered a vast highway network spanning thousands of kilometres across both states, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure in southern India.
The meeting brought together senior officials from the Ministry, the National Highways Authority of India and key project stakeholders. The review was conducted in response to feedback on road conditions and project delays, highlighting the importance of accountability and timely completion.
Gadkari emphasized that while speed is important, it should not compromise quality. He urged stakeholders to adopt modern construction technologies and best practices to improve durability, ensure smoother travel and enhance overall road safety. Strong monitoring mechanisms and long-term maintenance planning were also identified as critical for sustaining infrastructure performance.
With the monsoon season approaching, the minister directed officials to prioritize preventive measures. These include improving drainage systems, strengthening slopes and ensuring rapid response systems to handle emergencies. The aim is to minimize waterlogging, prevent structural damage and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during heavy rains.
The review highlights the government’s continued commitment to building resilient and efficient highway networks that support economic growth while maintaining safety and reliability throughout the year.
