The construction equipment industry is moving toward cleaner and more efficient technologies, with hybrid solutions emerging as a practical bridge between conventional diesel machinery and full electrification.
Infra Engineers India Pvt. Ltd. (IEPL) is advancing this transition through its Dual Plug-in Electric & Diesel Hybrid Excavator. The company has also integrated its hybrid technology into new Kobelco excavators and is developing solutions that can convert existing machines into EV-hybrid equipment.
The technology is designed to combine operational efficiency with lower running costs. According to the company, its hybrid excavators can operate at approximately Rs 350 per hour for a 20-ton machine and Rs 600–650 per hour for a 50-ton machine. IEPL estimates that customers can recover the investment in around 5,000 operating hours.
The company has also expanded its hybrid technology internationally through a joint venture in Thailand. Its first 20-ton EV hybrid excavator there has been followed by repeat business, including 10 confirmed retrofit orders.
IEPL is developing tailor-made electrification systems for different site requirements and plans to expand into additional Southeast Asian markets. It is also preparing next-generation EV hybrid wheel loaders for sectors including mining, ports, waste management, paper and scrap handling.
The shift toward hybrid construction equipment highlights how electrification can be integrated into existing machinery while focusing on productivity, operating efficiency and sustainability.
