Coal India has secured a major solar project worth ₹2,831.11 crore to develop a 600 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh, marking another important milestone in the company’s expansion into renewable energy.
The project has been awarded by Bundelkhand Saur Urja through a competitive domestic bidding process and will be developed at the Jalaun Solar Park. The solar facility will be built in two phases of 300 MW each, with the electricity generated to be supplied at a fixed tariff of ₹2.73 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Before construction begins, Coal India must complete several regulatory and contractual formalities, including submitting compliance documents, paying upfront solar park development charges, and signing key agreements such as the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and land use rights agreement. Once these requirements are fulfilled, the company will have 18 months to complete and commission the project.
The new project reflects Coal India’s ongoing strategy to diversify beyond coal mining and strengthen its presence in the renewable energy sector. By investing in large-scale solar infrastructure, the company is supporting India’s clean energy transition while building a more sustainable and diversified business portfolio. The project is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s renewable power generation capacity and long-term energy security.
