The Bengal Gas Company Ltd (BGCL) has announced a major expansion of its piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure across West Bengal. By the end of 2025, the company aims to connect around 25,000 households to piped gas and set up 12 new CNG stations in the greater Kolkata region, taking the total to 30.
BGCL CEO Anupam Mukhopadhyay shared that the long-term goal is to reach five lakh domestic PNG connections over the next five years. To support this vision, the company plans to establish nearly 90 CNG stations across the state.
On Monday, West Bengal Industries Minister Shashi Panja inaugurated two new CNG stations—Surya Filling Station in Bagbazar and Bela Energy Station near Ganesh Talkies. She also announced that four to five more bus-friendly CNG stations would be launched in areas such as Ultadanga, Tollygunge, and Neelganj before the festive season begins.
BGCL is a joint venture between GAIL (India) Ltd and the Greater Calcutta Gas Supply Corporation Ltd (GCGSCL), operating under the West Bengal government to promote clean energy use in the state.
