The Delhi government has greenlit a ₹600-crore road development project aimed at enhancing connectivity and creating a green corridor along the Najafgarh Drain (also known as the Sahibi river). The ambitious plan includes constructing 60.77 km of roads, with a 5.94 km two-lane stretch on the left bank from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge, and an additional 54.83 km of two-lane roads on both banks from Chhawla to Basaidarapur Bridge.
The corridor will integrate with major roads including Inner Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Pankha Road, Najafgarh Road, and Dwarka Expressway. This is expected to significantly decongest traffic and streamline connectivity across western and southwest Delhi.
Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma emphasized the dual focus of the initiative—improving transport infrastructure while promoting ecological sustainability. Plans include landscaped greenery, public amenities, street furniture, signage, and improved boundary walls.
Residents of Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nilothi, Baprola, Najafgarh, Kakrola, Dwarka, Vikaspuri, and Chhawla are set to benefit the most. The government is expected to begin construction soon, marking a major push towards sustainable urban development.
