NLC India and APDCL Form Joint Venture to Boost Assam’s Renewable Energy Drive

NLC India, through its wholly-owned subsidiary NLC India Renewables Ltd. (NIRL), has officially partnered with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) to launch a joint venture named NIRL Assam Renewables. Registered on 07 May 2025 with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the new entity marks a major step forward in accelerating renewable energy development in Assam.

The JV is structured with a 51:49 equity ratio, granting majority ownership to NIRL. Its mandate includes developing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy projects across Assam, focusing primarily on solar and other green energy sources. This move aligns with Assam’s renewable energy obligations and supports India’s broader clean energy transition goals.

The formation of the joint venture followed regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Coal and the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), with final clearance granted on 07 March 2025.

This partnership underlines Assam’s increasing focus on diversifying its energy portfolio and enhancing sustainability. It also strengthens NLC India’s national renewable footprint, complementing ongoing projects in states like Rajasthan. The JV is poised to play a vital role in making Assam a frontrunner in India’s green energy landscape.
