On November 22, 2024, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for rural road and bridge projects worth Rs 8,837.77 crore. The projects, led by the Rural Works Department (RWD), aim to enhance rural connectivity and infrastructure across the state.
The ceremony, held at the Chief Minister’s residence, 1 Anne Marg, was attended by RWD Minister Ashok Choudhary, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, and other senior officials. Kumar inaugurated 763 roads totaling 947 km and four bridges built at a cost of Rs 983 crore under the Chief Minister Gram Sampark Yojana. Additionally, 972 roads spanning 1,904 km were repaired at Rs 1,113 crore, and 33 roads covering 104 km were upgraded under the Chief Minister Rural Road Development Scheme for Rs 92 crore.
Foundation stones were laid for 1,472 roads and five bridges under the Gram Sampark Yojana, costing Rs 1,824 crore. Another 2,306 roads will undergo repairs at Rs 2,350 crore, while 442 roads and one bridge will be reconstructed for Rs 1,739 crore under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Sadak Unnayan Yojana.
Kumar emphasized the importance of maintaining rural infrastructure for sustainable development, reaffirming Bihar’s commitment to improved rural accessibility.
