PWD Plans Construction Project to Extend Munak Canal Road to Kashmere Gate

Date:

The Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi, has unveiled plans for a major construction project to extend the under-construction Munak Canal elevated road up to Kashmere Gate, featuring a four-kilometre tunnel between Inderlok and the Kashmere Gate ISBT.

This ambitious project aims to create a high-speed corridor connecting North Delhi with Central Delhi, significantly improving connectivity and easing congestion. The PWD has begun preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the extension, which aligns with the Delhi government’s broader strategy to upgrade city infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic movement.

Once completed, the corridor will provide a signal-free, high-speed route from the Delhi-Haryana border to Central Delhi, reducing travel time by nearly 40 percent. The construction will particularly benefit commuters from North and Northwest Delhi, as well as travelers entering the city from Haryana.

The project will also help decongest key intersections such as Mukarba Chowk and Azadpur, facilitating smoother vehicular flow. With this development, the Munak Canal corridor is set to become one of Delhi’s most transformative infrastructure projects, strengthening the capital’s road network and boosting daily travel efficiency.
