India’s residential rental market is emerging as a significant segment of the country’s housing economy, with annual rental-search demand estimated at ₹7.53 trillion in 2026, according to the latest Rental Index by Magicbricks. Rental-search activity recorded a 2.4% CAGR between 2024 and 2026, reflecting sustained interest from tenants looking for homes across the country.
The data also highlights how rental demand and rental prices can move differently across individual cities. Greater Noida, for example, recorded a 32.5% quarter-on-quarter rise in rental demand, while rents declined by 1.6% during the same period. This indicates that local supply conditions and tenant preferences continue to play an important role in determining rental values.
Digital platforms are increasingly becoming an important part of the rental discovery process. Tenants can compare properties based on location, budget, home configuration and furnishing before making a decision.
The growing volume of online rental searches is also providing insights into changing housing preferences. As more people compare and evaluate rental homes digitally, search behaviour is becoming an important indicator of housing-market activity.
The latest findings point to an increasingly diverse rental landscape, with demand, pricing and supply conditions varying significantly between cities and micro-markets.
