A Central technical team is set to visit Telangana on September 7 to evaluate alternative locations for the proposed Kothagudem airport, marking a fresh step towards advancing the long-pending aviation project in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
The inspection follows a meeting between Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi. Two sites previously considered for the airport were deemed unsuitable because of technical limitations. In response, the Telangana government has identified four to five alternative locations and forwarded them to the Centre for evaluation.
During the upcoming visit, the technical team will examine the proposed sites and assess factors such as their feasibility and suitability for airport development. Its findings are expected to play an important role in determining the next steps for the project.
The proposed airport is intended to improve air connectivity in Bhadradri Kothagudem, while supporting regional economic activity, tourism and investment.
The initiative is part of Telangana’s broader efforts to expand and modernise its aviation infrastructure. Developing additional airport facilities is expected to improve connectivity between emerging industrial and commercial centres and major cities, while supporting the state’s long-term economic growth.
