The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has announced three new degree programmes to start in fall 2026: a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence, and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering. These programmes were approved on September 18 by the UNC Board of Governors.
The AI initiatives place Charlotte among roughly 20 U.S. institutions offering a dedicated undergraduate AI degree and about 35 offering a master’s programme in the field. The new construction engineering degree aims to bridge a key gap between civil engineering design and project execution in the built environment.
Jennifer Troyer, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, noted that the new programmes reflect Charlotte’s strategy to anticipate workforce trends and meet regional technology and infrastructure needs. In addition to these, UNC System has also approved a fully online Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, to begin next fall, catering to working learners and expanding access to higher education.
Through these additions, UNC Charlotte seeks to strengthen North Carolina’s talent pipeline in high-growth sectors, equipping graduates to lead in AI innovation and infrastructure development.
