JSW Infrastructure, the port and logistics arm of the $24 billion JSW Group, has won a 30-year concession to modernise and operate two berths at Calcutta’s Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD), outbidding Adani Ports with a ₹4,678 per TEU royalty bid—totaling an investment of ₹832 crore. This marks JSW’s first port project in West Bengal, deepening its strategic ties with the region following its ₹16,000‑crore thermal plant commitment in Salboni earlier this year.
The deal covers the reconstruction of berth 8, mechanisation of berths 7 and 8 with rail-mounted quay cranes, and development of a 25-acre yard—boosting NSD’s annual handling capacity to approximately 4.48 lakh TEUs. Once fully commissioned in about two and a half years, the upgraded facilities—along with night navigation—are expected to significantly reduce turnaround times and logistics costs.
This victory not only marks JSW’s entrance into eastern India’s container terminal space but also introduces competition alongside Adani, which continues to develop Haldia’s bulk cargo berth. With ten domestic terminals and one overseas, JSW’s Kolkata foray signals deeper regional expansion and aligns with its broader infrastructure thrust
