India to Upgrade 30,000 km of Highways to Four Lanes: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a transformative plan to upgrade 25,000–30,000 km of India’s two-lane highways into four-lane corridors, with an estimated investment of ₹8–10 lakh crore. This initiative aims to bolster infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.

At the India Infrastructure Forum 2025, Gadkari emphasized the importance of infrastructure in making India a strong economic power. He also revealed plans to revise the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, wherein the government will collect tolls for 15 years and compensate concessionaires on an annuity basis. Additionally, the Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) model will be promoted to attract Indian investors for highway projects.

Gadkari’s vision includes completing road projects worth ₹5–6 lakh crore annually. He also highlighted the need to make agriculture economically viable to achieve a self-reliant India.

This ambitious plan is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic development.
