Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works (KMEW) has secured a major work order worth Rs 279.33 crore from the Mumbai Port Authority.The contract involves chartering a 60-ton bollard pull capacity battery-operated electric green tug, along with complete vessel manning, daily operations, and other allied activities.
The project will be executed under a long-term charter model, ensuring efficient and sustainable harbour operations.This is KMEW’s third green tug contract from an Indian port authority, strengthening its leadership position in India’s growing sustainable maritime segment. The company has been at the forefront of deploying eco-friendly harbour crafts in line with the government’s Green Ports initiative.The order is significant as it combines zero-emission technology with long-term asset management.
The battery-operated tug will help reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption during harbour operations, contributing to Mumbai Port’s decarbonization goals.For KMEW, the contract also ensures strong multi-year revenue visibility and reinforces its operational capabilities in green maritime solutions.With increasing focus on sustainable shipping and port operations across the country, KMEW’s latest win highlights the rising demand for electric and green tugs and positions the company well for future opportunities in the green maritime ecosystem.
