25 Minutes from Thane to Mumbai?

Date:

Mumbai is ready for another major leap in its transport story. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started work on the 13.9-km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension and this development promises to change daily travel for lakhs of people. As someone who has watched the city grow over the years, this project feels like an important moment for the eastern corridor.

The new six-lane elevated road will cut the travel time between Thane and South Mumbai to just 25 to 30 minutes. For many regular commuters, this is not just a number; it is extra time saved every single day. The extension starts from Anand Nagar in Thane and goes all the way to Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar, linking several key areas along the way. Places like Mulund, Airoli, JVLR, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mankhurd and Ghatkopar will now enjoy smoother movement and easier access.

What makes this project even more special is how well it connects with existing routes. At the Thane end, it will merge with the Anand Nagar–Saket Elevated Road, forming a long, uninterrupted high-speed stretch. It will also provide better access to the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, turning Thane into a stronger travel and trade hub.

With construction now in progress, this elevated freeway marks a hopeful step toward faster travel and reduced congestion. It shows how continuous planning and steady action can shape a more connected and efficient Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
