In a major milestone for railway infrastructure in eastern India, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully completed the breakthrough of Tunnel No. 35 under the Koraput–Singapur Road doubling project. The 630-metre tunnel, situated between Sikarpai and Keutguda stations in the Waltair Division, was executed with 100% alignment accuracy, marking a significant advancement in this high-priority project.
The breakthrough was overseen by the Chief Engineer, Construction-II, Visakhapatnam, along with senior officials from the Waltair Division, who were present at the site to monitor the progress. Officials described the achievement as a testament to ECoR’s strong technical capabilities and focus on timely delivery.
“This successful breakthrough of Tunnel 35 demonstrates our commitment to precision, quality, and timely execution,” a senior ECoR official stated, emphasizing the importance of the project in strengthening rail infrastructure.
Once completed, the Koraput–Singapur Road doubling project is expected to significantly boost rail capacity and improve connectivity across southern Odisha and adjoining regions. The new line will reduce congestion, enable smoother train movement, and support regional economic growth by improving transport efficiency.
