New Barabanki-Bahraich Highway to Strengthen India-Nepal Economic Ties

Date:

The upcoming Barabanki-Bahraich Highway is expected to play an important role in strengthening trade and economic ties between India and Nepal. The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a four-lane, access-controlled section of National Highway-927, improving connectivity to the strategically important Rupaidiha Land Port and Nepalgunj in Nepal.

The project is expected to make the movement of goods faster and more efficient, supporting cross-border commerce and regional businesses. The improved corridor will also benefit the transportation of agricultural products, essential goods and other supplies between India and Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the highway could reduce travel time between Barabanki and Bahraich by nearly 50%, from around 150 minutes to approximately 75 minutes. Average vehicle speeds are also expected to increase from about 40 kmph to 80 kmph.

Beyond trade, the project is likely to create new opportunities in transport, logistics, warehousing and local businesses. Better road connectivity could also improve access to healthcare, education and markets for communities in the region.

With improved access to the Rupaidiha-Nepalgunj trade route, the Barabanki-Bahraich Highway is poised to become an important infrastructure link supporting India-Nepal trade, regional development and economic cooperation.
