Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari chaired a high-level review meeting in New Delhi to assess the maintenance and quality of National Highway projects across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Gujarat. The meeting focused on improving road durability, strengthening safety measures and ensuring a better travel experience for commuters.
During the review, the minister instructed officials to adopt long-term maintenance strategies and ensure that highways meet high construction and safety standards. He stressed that well-maintained roads not only improve connectivity but also reduce accidents, lower vehicle operating costs and support economic growth.
Officials reviewed the progress of ongoing highway maintenance works and discussed measures to enhance road quality through timely inspections, preventive maintenance and efficient project execution. Gadkari also highlighted the importance of using advanced engineering practices and modern technologies to build roads that can withstand heavy traffic and changing weather conditions.
The minister reiterated that road safety should remain a top priority in every infrastructure project. He urged agencies to address maintenance issues promptly, improve signage, strengthen safety features and deliver highways that provide a smooth and secure journey for the public.
The review reflects the government’s continued commitment to developing world-class road infrastructure while ensuring that India’s expanding highway network remains safe, durable and efficient for millions of daily commuters.
