Mustang, Nepal — Construction work has begun on a new road diversion at Ghami Khola in Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda–2, Mustang, aimed at improving the movement of heavy cargo vehicles entering Nepal through the Lizi–Nechung (Korala) border.
The new diversion is being developed to ease congestion caused by large transport trucks near the Mustang Customs Office. Once completed, heavy vehicles will be rerouted through this bypass, while smaller and electric trucks will continue to use the existing temporary bridge for crossing.
Officials stated that the difficult terrain and changing weather in Mustang pose challenges to timely completion. However, local authorities are expediting the work to minimize disruptions to cross-border logistics and trade.
Given Mustang’s growing importance as a key Himalayan trade corridor, the project is expected to enhance the region’s logistics network and improve supply chain connectivity between Nepal and its neighboring countries.
During the construction period, transporters may experience minor delays as equipment and materials are moved through sensitive sections. Once operational, the diversion will streamline cargo movement, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and strengthen Mustang’s role in Nepal’s border-trade infrastructure.
