At the India Infrastructure Summit 2025 in New Delhi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid out India’s bold vision: to become a global “Indroha”, a nation where growth and sustainability walk hand in hand. The summit, hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in its centenary year, assembled policymakers, private sector leaders, technologists and investors to chart the roadmap for India’s infrastructure future.
Gadkari emphasized that infrastructure is the backbone of national growth, noting that India now has 25 Greenfield expressways spanning 10,000 km under development. He highlighted innovative approaches such as using city waste in road construction, promoting green fuels, EV adoption and pushing for a scrappage policy, all within the framework of his guiding principles: People, Prosperity, Planet.
During a plenary on “Recent Trends, New Focus Areas and Future Strategies,” Sunil Jindal of NHAI shared that over the past decade, the agency’s spending has grown sevenfold, construction pace has accelerated to 35 km per day and over 50,000 km of highways have been completed. He also detailed emerging trends like drone-based analytics, waste-to-road technology and AI-driven construction, signalling India’s push toward infrastructure that is smart, sustainable and resilient.
The summit also saw deep discussions on policy, PPP models, land acquisition, environmental clearances and financing mechanisms. As India strides toward its US$ 5 trillion economy aspiration, building resilient, green and efficient infrastructure is central and the “Indroha” vision places sustainability at the heart of growth.
