The Telangana government has sanctioned ₹162.54 crore for the construction of the Munneru-Paleru Link Canal Project, a major step toward enhancing water management in the region. A formal Government Order has been issued, marking the project’s official launch.
According to Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, the project aims to divert nearly 10 TMC of floodwaters from the Munneru River to the Paleru Reservoir. This will help stabilise irrigation across 2.54 lakh acres of farmland, including 1.30 lakh acres in the Paleru constituency.
In addition to boosting agricultural irrigation, the project will ensure a reliable supply of drinking water to the districts of Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Khammam. It will also support irrigation for ten tanks in the Dornakal constituency, improving water accessibility throughout the region.
The Munneru-Paleru Link Canal Project is expected to significantly enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen drinking water security, and improve rural livelihoods. By effectively utilising surplus floodwater, the initiative reflects the Telangana government’s focus on sustainable development and resource optimisation.
