Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department to expedite the implementation of Union government-funded infrastructure projects and initiatives supported under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). The directive was issued during a review meeting held to assess the progress of various urban development schemes across the state.
Emphasising the importance of sustainable and integrated urban growth, the Chief Minister called for stronger coordination among government departments and agencies to ensure seamless project execution. He stressed that infrastructure projects must be completed within prescribed timelines to maximise their economic benefits and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Urban Challenge Fund, introduced in April this year, has the potential to unlock urban infrastructure investments worth approximately ₹30,000 crore across Tamil Nadu. The fund is expected to support a wide range of projects focused on enhancing urban services, public amenities, transportation networks, and civic infrastructure.
CM Vijay highlighted the need for strategic planning, efficient resource utilisation, and timely project delivery to address the rapidly growing infrastructure demands of cities and urban centres. The review meeting underscores the state government’s commitment to strengthening urban development frameworks, improving public services, and creating sustainable, future-ready cities across Tamil Nadu.
