The Andhra Pradesh government has granted a second extension for the completion of the nearly ₹5,000-crore Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port project in Prakasam district. The revised deadline has been set for December 30, 2026, with no liquidated damages imposed on the contractor.
The port project is being developed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis by a joint venture between Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd and Aurobindo Realty Ltd. Its original completion date was June 23, 2025, followed by an earlier extension until April 27, 2026.
The latest extension follows several challenges reported by the EPC contractor. These include delays in handing over more than 38 acres of land, which affected key works such as the stackyard, internal roads, railway connectivity and utilities. Delays in external infrastructure, including power transmission and railway links, also contributed to the revised timeline.
Additional difficulties included unexpected hard strata during dredging, changes in dredge disposal locations, operational constraints, local issues and land acquisition challenges. Severe cyclones and disruptions to fuel supply chains linked to geopolitical developments in West Asia were also cited as force majeure events.
The government has clarified that the extension will not involve any additional payment to the contractor.
