Transport Sector Creates 4.5 Crore Jobs in India: Nitin Gadkari

Date:

India’s transport sector has become one of the largest employment generators in the country, creating nearly 4.5 crore jobs, according to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Speaking at the WION World Pulse Summit, Gadkari said that the rapid growth of the transport and infrastructure industry has played a key role in strengthening the Indian economy while providing large-scale job opportunities.

He explained that the development of highways, expressways, logistics parks, ports and automobile manufacturing has opened employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers. From drivers and engineers to construction workers and technicians, the transport sector supports millions of livelihoods across the country.

Gadkari also noted that infrastructure projects create a ripple effect in the economy. When new roads and transport systems are built, industries such as real estate, tourism, trade and manufacturing also grow. This leads to additional job creation and helps improve overall economic activity.

The minister emphasized that India must continue investing in modern infrastructure, green fuels and advanced mobility solutions to maintain this growth. With ongoing highway construction, electric vehicle adoption and improvements in logistics efficiency, the transport sector is expected to remain one of the strongest pillars of employment and development in the coming years.
