Rajasthan’s Transport Revival: A New Chapter in Public Mobility

Date:

Public transport is more than a travel medium, it is the backbone of Rajasthan’s social and economic landscape. For millions of people across the state’s vast terrain, dependable mobility shapes daily life, connecting them to education, jobs, healthcare and markets. Recognising this crucial role, the Rajasthan government has launched a transformative mission to revitalise its public transport ecosystem, marking a new era of efficiency, reliability and citizen-centric service.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the state has prioritised overhauling the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC), an organisation long burdened by ageing buses, operational losses and inconsistent services. Through targeted reforms focused on transparency, accountability and smarter operations, the government has succeeded in turning challenges into measurable progress.

A major breakthrough has been curbing diesel pilferage, optimising routes and enhancing operational discipline, leading to improved daily mileage and renewed public confidence. The fleet has seen a significant expansion as well, with 810 new buses and 352 contractual vehicles added, allowing greater coverage across cities, towns and rural regions. Plans to induct another 800 buses underscore the state’s long-term commitment to accessible mobility.

These interventions have not only enhanced travel comfort but also contributed to a notable reduction in RSRTC’s financial deficit. What began as a repair effort has evolved into a forward-looking vision: building a financially stable, technology-enabled and commuter-friendly public transport network that supports Rajasthan’s inclusive growth and sustainable future.
