Odisha Begins Preparations for National Road Safety Month 2026

Date:

Odisha is gearing up for National Road Safety Month 2026 with a strong focus on public awareness, safer mobility and coordinated action across the state. The nationwide observance will take place from January 1 to January 31, 2026, aiming to reduce road accidents and promote responsible road behaviour.

A preparatory review meeting was held under the leadership of Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department, bringing together senior transport officials to outline the state’s strategy for the month-long campaign. The discussions centred on aligning national road safety objectives with district-level execution to ensure measurable impact.

Key focus areas include road safety awareness drives, stricter enforcement of traffic rules, improvements in road engineering and enhanced post-accident emergency response systems. Special attention will be given to seven districts identified as high-risk zones, based on accident data and traffic patterns. Targeted interventions will be designed to address accident-prone stretches and behavioural issues among road users.

The state plans to involve multiple stakeholders, including district administrations, traffic police and other government departments, to ensure a coordinated approach. Officials emphasised the need for continuous public engagement and community participation to create long-term behavioural change.

With structured planning and data-driven initiatives, Odisha aims to make National Road Safety Month 2026 a catalyst for safer roads and a stronger culture of road responsibility across the state.
