Construction has commenced on Google’s ambitious AI and data centre hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking a major milestone in the company’s $15 billion investment plan for India between 2026 and 2030. The project is expected to become Google’s largest digital infrastructure investment in the country and one of its biggest AI facilities globally.
Developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, the facility is designed to support India’s growing artificial intelligence ecosystem through large-scale data centre infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and advanced computing capabilities. The hub is also expected to strengthen the country’s digital economy and attract significant technology investments.
However, the project has also triggered concerns among local communities and activists. Residents have raised questions regarding land acquisition, environmental impact, water consumption, and the potential effect on livelihoods in nearby villages.
