The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) has finalised plans for Gurukul City, a flagship residential township project aimed at supporting planned urban expansion in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Envisioned as the foundation of New Gorakhpur, the project aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to promote organised urban development in the region. The township is scheduled for launch around Diwali, with the initial development covering nearly 100 acres. Further expansion is planned in multiple phases to accommodate future housing demand.
Located along the Sonauli Road corridor, Gurukul City is being planned to address the growing need for residential infrastructure as Gorakhpur strengthens its position as a regional centre for education, healthcare, trade and industrial activities. The city’s expanding economic base is expected to drive demand for organised housing and supporting urban infrastructure.
The proposed township will incorporate citizen-friendly amenities and environmentally sustainable infrastructure to improve residents’ quality of life. Its development is intended to support the region’s growing population while creating a more structured and liveable urban environment.
With Gurukul City, the GDA aims to establish a planned residential destination that can contribute to Gorakhpur’s long-term growth. The project is expected to play a role in shaping the city’s future expansion while strengthening its residential infrastructure and urban development framework.
