India Set to Lead the World in Biofuels: Nitin Gadkari

Date:

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that India is on the verge of becoming a global leader in the biofuels sector. Speaking at a public event in Puducherry, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple highway projects, the minister emphasized that sustainable fuels will shape India’s future energy landscape.

He highlighted that India’s electric vehicle industry has grown significantly, from ₹14 lakh crore in 2014 to ₹22 lakh crore today, showing rapid advancement in clean mobility and green technology. Among the projects inaugurated were the 38-km four-lane Puducherry–Poondiyankuppam stretch worth ₹1,588 crore, a 4-km elevated corridor costing ₹436 crore and the improvement of 14 km of the East Coast Road at a cost of ₹25 crore.

Focusing on sustainability, Gadkari noted that more than 18 lakh tonnes of municipal waste have already been used in constructing roads, proving India’s commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure. He urged tractor manufacturers to adopt ethanol, flex-fuel, CNG and electric technologies, adding that electric tractors can help farmers save up to ₹1.5 lakh every year.

The minister also shared that India’s logistics costs have come down from 16% to 10% and are expected to drop further to 9% with better infrastructure and fuel efficiency.

With strong policy backing, innovation and sustainable practices, India is steadily moving towards becoming a global hub for biofuels and renewable energy solutions.
