After nearly a decade, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation recruits 2,000 driver‑conductors

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has filled a long-standing staffing gap by recruiting 2,000 driver‑cum‑conductors, the first large-scale induction since 2017, out of approximately 5,000 vacancies. Previously, KSRTC relied on 2,000 outsourced drivers from private agencies to maintain operations.

The recruitment process generated significant interest, with 25,494 applications received and 13,954 candidates shortlisted. The delay in appointments stemmed from factors like the COVID‑19 pandemic, budgetary challenges and restrictions on hiring, according to officials.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy presided over a ceremony at the KSRTC headquarters, handing over appointment letters to the top 51 candidates as a symbolic gesture. KSRTC now plans to expand bus schedules to improve public transit across Karnataka.

Minister Reddy emphasized that selections were merit-based and transparent, urging the new recruits to prioritize safety, courtesy and service especially to women and students.
