Essar Ports Wins Contract to Develop Multi-Purpose Cargo Terminal at Kandla

Date:

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has issued a Letter of Award (LoA) to Essar Ports for developing a multi-purpose cargo terminal at Tuna Tekra port in Kandla, Gujarat. The project is expected to strengthen cargo-handling infrastructure and support India’s growing domestic and international trade.

The terminal will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. The project has a concession period of 30 years, allowing Essar Ports to develop and operate the facility under the agreed terms before transferring it to the port authority.

Essar Ports emerged as the highest bidder in a global competitive bidding process conducted for the project.

The proposed cargo terminal will be located on the eastern side of DPA’s Mega Container Terminal at Tuna Tekra, which is currently being developed by DP World under the PPP model.

The new facility aims to expand the port’s multi-purpose cargo-handling capacity and improve its ability to manage increasing cargo volumes. It is also expected to support the long-term growth of domestic trade and export-import (EXIM) activities.

The project highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen port infrastructure and improve logistics capabilities, positioning Kandla to better serve India’s evolving trade and cargo transportation requirements.
