Northern Railway has invited tenders for developing warehouse facilities near Anantnag and Pampore railway stations in Kashmir, aiming to strengthen storage infrastructure and improve freight transportation across the region.
The proposed warehouses are expected to benefit the agricultural sector by enabling locally produced goods to reach major markets more efficiently. Apple growers and saffron traders across the Kashmir Valley are likely to gain from improved logistics, reduced transportation expenses and better access to rail-based freight services.
The Jammu Railway Division has invited private investors to develop and operate the facilities under the Railways’ Cargo Related Facility (CRF) policy. The initiative seeks to integrate storage facilities with railway transportation, creating a more efficient supply chain for agricultural commodities.
The warehouses are expected to reduce loading and unloading costs, minimise post-harvest losses and improve the handling and movement of perishable products. Better storage and transportation arrangements could also help farmers and traders manage the challenges associated with transporting agricultural produce over long distances.
With the proposed developments at Anantnag and Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir will have three warehouse projects planned under this initiative. The third facility is proposed at Bari Brahmana, near Jammu city.
The projects are expected to strengthen regional logistics infrastructure, support agricultural trade and improve connectivity between Kashmir’s production centres and major consumer markets.
